Family Ride

Ms V is excited about the Lion Ride.  This is the brainchild of That Kellie Girl. Oil up your chain, pump up your tires, and come on out.  Bring the whole family and let's ride.

3rd Place?

In urban planning speak we use the term "3rd place" to symbolize a place where people come together and socialized.  The 1st and 2nd place are usually home and work, respectively. The fancy new Francis A Gregory Library has the potential to be a 3rd place.

Ms V spent an entire day in the library working.  I moved around every few hours for a change of scenery. Some "young at hearts" where chatting it up in the small meeting room.  The youth were on their computers listening to music and reading up on the latest "thing" on the internet.  Some people were curled up in a chair reading a book. An older gentleman was reading his paper.

CM Jack Evans has introduced legislation to extend library hours to 9:00 am - 9:00 PM Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-5:30PM Friday-Saturday, and noon-5:00PM on Sunday.   I like the idea of extended hours.  There have been times when I want to go to the library after work to grab a book and read or continue working, but it was closed.  It also gives the young people something to do and a place to study after school.

I think this is vital to our city and our community.  Please email, call, text, tweet the Council and let them know your thoughts. http://dccouncil.us/council

Here is the press release.  I'll deal with PEPCO on another day *side-eye*.
Pepco Libraries

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

The Francis A Gregory Library still has "new" smell and there has already been a break-in.  Five individuals put their needs/desires above the community.  To the selfish people who did this, shame on you *wags finger*.  Instead of stealing from the community, how about you use the 1000s of books and educate yourself or use the computers to take some online classes.  Good grief.  Anywho, here's some info from MPD:

The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public's assistance in identifying several persons of interest in relation to a burglary which occurred on June 26, 2012 at the Francis A. Gregory neighborhood library, located at 3660 Alabama Avenue, SE, in Washington, DC. The video depicts five individuals who enter the library by breaking a glass window. After gaining entry, the subjects are shown removing several pieces of computer equipment and then exiting the building.

Anyone who has knowledge of this case, knows the identities of the subjects, or who sees them should take no action, but should immediately call police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department's TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.

Information on how to provide tips to MPD is available at http://www.mpdc.dc.gov/tipline. Learn more about MPD's rewards program at http://www.mpdc.dc.gov/rewards.
