SOS = Save our Substation: The more you know...

Dear neighbors.... Originally scheduled for tomorrow's DC Council agenda was Bill 18-220, which would provide business in Union Station a permanent tax abatement starting in FY 2016. Miss V will deferred to DC Policy Institute and Greater Great Washington for a detailed analysis of what this all means in dollars and cents. For now the Bill has been pulled from tomorrow's agenda, but there is a short video prepared by DC Policy Institute at the bottom of this blog post.

What does this all have to do with the Substation? Miss V's position is the City should purchase the Substation. A detailed justification to come later this week. The tax assessed value of the building is $1.5 million. Even if we escalate for market value and upgrades, the total cost should still be well under $5 million. Is $5 million to much to ask, when the City was prepared to consider giving nation chain stores a permanent tax break? As you all prepare your testimony for the MPD-6D Substation hearing, please keep this whole boondoggle fresh in your mind.
